In November 2003 the Trustees of the California State University approved an updated master plan for the Fullerton campus. Key elements of the 2003 Master Development plan include:
- 25% increase of the mandated maximum enrollment from 20,000 full time equivalent students (FTES) to 25,000 FTES;
- 26% increase in campus parking capacity by 2005, from 9,100 spaces to 11,500 spaces, with the introduction of parking structures;
- Preservation of existing campus open space and outdoor sports and recreation space
- Preservation of the existing campus core, with future development added around the fringes of the core, typically on existing parking lots;
- Student housing on campus will be expanded from 830 residents to about 2,400 residents
- Faculty and staff rental housing will be provided on campus;
- For safety and enhanced quality of campus life, existing campus roadways will be realigned or eliminated to enlarge the central pedestrian-only zone; and
- Further long term enrollment growth may be possible up to about 30,000 FTES without new land acquisition.
