Building Site Selection
The campus master plan generally guides where future buildings are to be located, and sometimes, just as important, where buildings may not be located. Protection of certain open space, for example, is a key factor in determining location of new campus buildings. The master plan may not anticipate all circumstances; however, so additional work may be needed before a new building is designed, to address issues such as:
Site approval for proposed buildings not anticipated by the master plan
Minor modifications of the master plan, within the original intent
Changes or improvements in vehicular and/or pedestrian access
Mitigating the displacement of parking spaces
These may be addressed in specific studies prior to design, in order to guide the architect’s work.
